Sacha Baron Cohen was signed on to play Freddie mercury in the Queen biopic. However, he soon realized that the lead guitarist, Brian Mey was under the impression that the film would have Freddie Mercury die halfway through. Brian thought the film should be about how the band overcame his death and still rocked on.

Wisely, Cohen realized nobody wanted to see that movie.

Huh. TIL. I can see how that'd be a difficult story to tell, the way Brian Mey wanted it. Mercury was very much larger than life and his death really was a closing chapter. It would make sense to end the film there, story telling wise.
