Are you the kind of person who gets the mail and anxiously opens it up? Or are you the type of person who doesn't really care, regardless of how "Important looking" the mail is?
Why do you think you are that way?
I ask because our mail is being forwarded to my parent's house and my mom is asking me every day if she should open the mail. All of our bills and stuff are taken care of and online anyway, so I say "Sure" but the cycle continues. You'd think after 4 or 5 times it would stop, but I feel like some people are just wired to think that getting something (email/text/mail/phone call) means it's important.
I am not of that persuasion. I think it's because I get so easily overloaded that I stopped caring about so much input just to cope.
This question alone should be the one that psychiatrists ask upon signing up for service.
I don't get a lot of junk mail actually. On principal, I refuse to give businesses my contact information. I don't get much advertisements because of that. I also don't get credit card offers anymore because I chose to opt out. (I don't know if that was the exact method I used, but it comes from the FTC who I'm pretty certain is trustworthy.) Finally, ever since I have canceled all of my magazine subscriptions, the number of solicitations I get for them seem to drop more each year. All that is left for me is bills and notifications, which is important, so I take care of them almost right away.
I don't like my mailbox, because 95% of what is in it is garbage. I don't enjoy playing filter between my kitchen counter and our recycling bin. That would be a great service: Someone that walks behind the postal worker, and for paying customers, collects all the junk for recycling before they have to see it.
Any mail I receive these days is usually important. Invitations, bills, important paperwork. Not that I get a lot of it. I usually dread it though, as it means more money out of my bank account and/or busy work.
I'm the former. I want to know what I have to deal with, good or bad!
I think it's a but hard to describe. But I've noticed that when some people get bills or mail in general they immediately go into a mode of "I need to open and respond to this NOW". While others are more willing to just let it sit on the table and ignore the urgency. I also might be wrong but I think it's a human behavior split (like toilet paper over or under) that shows a bit of personality. I loved when I got my postcard from Lil that was the first piece of mail I actually card about in a long time.
