Although a bit on the light side, a neat article to start a conversation.
My guess is Blackberry gets bought by someone (my bet Microsoft).
Not on the list? Commercial T1 lines. We had to get rid of ours last year as they are going away in this region; I cannot get a T1 even if I wanted one.
I still use a landline. Push notifications of all sorts piss me off, walled gardens piss me off, computers without keyboards piss me off, and devices that track my location without my consent piss me off. I wouldn't have a landline either if it were possible to function without a phone at all. Also get off my lawn. Saying the PC is dying is like saying BSD is dying.
Blackberries will continue to exist for the same reason Okidata dot matrix printers exist: they have a niche. If you need to print with carbon copies, you need a dot matrix printer. If you need a hardened text messenger for push in secure or HIPAA environments, you need Blackberry. They still have the patents, they still have the platform. The article could have been better. Really, it predicted the death in 2016 of things predicted in 2006 (many of which are effectively dead).
There will be something that looks like a PC, but it might not have all the functionality we've been used to. Probably a keyboard, monitor and mouse, but the internals may be very stripped down. At least for the mainstream; meanwhile the price of a full-blown PC that you can game and program on may go up as their niche becomes smaller. as long as there are offices there will be PCs
State just switched from Blackberries to iPhones and people are NOT happy but I don't think they're gonna switch back
Although numbers haven't been released, sales figures suggest that the Priv is selling well. I think it all hinges on whether or not Blackberry can get government and enterprise contracts. I am betting they can. I bought some BBRY stock. My guess is Blackberry gets bought by someone (my bet Microsoft).
