The ending is amazing but maybe the best scene in the entire film is the Grunwalksi scene. It mimics the end of the La Haine. On a literal level both stories end with the character missing the train and dying because of it. But on a deeper level I think that it shows what happens when a person cannot put their pride aside or change their ways to survive. Those who spend too much time worrying about their pride and angry will not survive. Another thing probably worth noting in this scene is that the old man is the one person in the entire film that is shown respect by the three main characters. They afford him the time to tell his story, and even at the end do not antagonize him. It shows that there is still some respect for the older French generation within them, that maybe not all is lost, and that their anger is more focused on their immediate circumstances.

I have a paper lying around somewhere about this film, I'm going to dig it up and distill it into a comment tomorrow or later tonight.

That was such a great scene. I forgot to add it in, but you really touched on how important it was.
