"Trap Queen" is our generation's greatest love song." Alternatively, "Trap Queen" and other Black songs White People love waaaaaay more than we do. Both explain the answer. Different ways. Other answer is that you probably don't listen to much hip/trap hop and that's why it sounds weird to you. take your pick I guess.
That second article is amazing. Trap hard 2015 rolls on."Who’s this dude trying to serenade me before he robs me? And why does he smell like crawfish?“
So the appeal is in the fact that is "unrelateable" and "unclean and uneven. He’s not a particularly great rapper, so the verse worked into the middle of the song is clumsy and a slight momentum-killer." I don't like it even though I am a massive hip hop fan. Among other bands, I have seen Public Enemy probably more than any other white guy (probably an exaggeration) and have had a one on ones with Chuck D and Rick Rubin. Not trap so much though so maybe that is the issue. I have nothing against cash and weed but that is just about the only thing I see or hear in that video. And voice enhancement does not do anything for me. Anyone can sound OK behind a computer. Thanks for the links.
