I haven't read all the books, though I intend to do so because they're great, but I gotta say I'm really excited for this series. Netflix makes a lot of good decisions.
I am very excited. I hadn't heard about this until now! I absolutely loved those books as a kid, and absolutely hated the shitty movie they made of it a few years back. I trust Netflix, and I think it could really work as a show. The detail in this trailer makes me feel as if the makers are true fans rather than just someone trying to capitalize on something popular. Now I want to re-read the books.
I didn't even like Jim Carry... He was way more overhanded than I'd've liked him to be.
Well... the film wrapped up a thirteen book series using only the first three books. That and Jim Carrey, although a decent actor who could fill the role of antagonist fairly well, hammed things up a bit too much for the sanguine tone the stories really call for. That's just my take on it though, it wasn't a bad film, just terribly underwhelming for those who expected a series to follow through all the books.
I read/listened to all of the books in college as part of my Children's Lit. class. I have to say that the trailer shows promise with sticking to the overall tone of the books. The slightly off-kilter, indeterminate time period, and generally darkish tone of the series really sings through. Color me excited.
