I'm almost halfway through Anthony Townsend's Smart Cities, which discusses the overlap between technology and the urban form like the Rio center from the article. Great read for anyone interested in urban planning.
I do not live in Rio, but I live in Sao Paulo (but I am american). I really hope that Sao Paulo starts/has something like this. But you know, the scary thing is that down here in Brazil is that even if they have all the data, that does not mean they have the ability to act. Maybe this is a step in the right direction to for Brazil to be more organized and efficient, I think systems like this would help the city build the future with a plan.
Kinda weird how they're saying nobody does this - I built one of these for the City of Seattle in 2002. Giant video walls, bomb-proof power supply, the whole nine yards. Post 9/11 emergency services ended up with a massive influx of cash, and lots of cities built C&C centers like this.
