Sounds good. Each one of their albums sounds more polished/produced than the last and I think they've lost something because of this. That doesn't mean the last two aren't good, because they're great I just don't think they can ever touch Oh Inverted World and Chutes Too Narrow. There's a bit of lo-fi to those albums that give them a genuineness that is lacking in most music. For example, it doesn't get much better than this

Better production is something that every band has more access to as they get more success. Oh Inverted World had a swampyness to it that is really special and I hate that they're getting further and further from that. More importantly for me though is that their song structures this time around are basically just boring. I definitely didn't have nearly as much fun listening to this new one. Maybe my expectations are too high. Or maybe he needs to tinker around in the studio more.

There has to be a bit of "no matter what i do, they love me". That's what I hear but....he's right, I love him. He's super talented and even his "boring song structures" are more intriguing than most others, right?
That said, there's obviously something to be said for the mother of invention. It certainly seems to be lacking here.
