A pretty interesting comparison between music and politics. I've never though of it this way and it's an interesting take on things. I'm not well informed or opinionated about USA politics enough to agree or disagree with Dan, but it's nice food for thought. Was Obama really "smells like teen spirit" for politics? I was a bit too young back then to follow Obama's first election to know.
Whadaya guys think? Do you think Hilary Clinton will be your next present?
1. Here is the Billboard 100 from the year end of 2007 -The last year of W. Bush and what led to Obama. The music largely sucks and is as vapid as todays. 2. The PMRC that he ties to Reagan was largely led by Tipper Gore, the wife of American super-liberal Al Gore. 3. "Our Dave Grohl was Barak Obama" -What? Obama was the right guy at the right time, no doubt about it. It was a perfect storm of events that led to his victory and I suppose that all the shitty hair bands and pop music of the early 90's created the perfect storm for Nirvana and other "grunge" bands to emerge. But saying that "music is tied to politics" because of this is dumb. Change is tied to the desire to have something new occur. People have this desire when what is and has been occurring sucks. Hair bands sucked. GW Bush sucked. Change happened. Apathy in art leads to crappy, easily digested garbage. Apathy in politics leads to a status quo of people that don't give a shit about you over and over. So yeah, his point is that when things suck they hit a fever pitch and we opt for change. Yep, that's true, but it's true in all things not just music and politics. Timing is everything.
