Bass lines should be composed just like melodies and lyrics, not some afterthought to give some crappy pop song a little more low end. I couldn't agree more. I recently bought a bass and I'm trying to get better at being a "bass" player and not a guitarist playing a bass. There's a huge difference and I think you just pointed it out.

Paul will never be appreciated enough for his bass playing because his signing and songwriting always take the spotlight. But also, what bass players are ever fully appreciated? It's a very under appreciated instrument.
