If you don't know what I'm on about, these are the rules for the game I'm posting later. If you have a question after reading, just ask.
Players must create characters and step up to take office. Your characters must be politicians and citizens of the nation. You cannot play as a religious figure. To create a character, give a name, date of birth, a culture (Flemish, Wallonian, or Luxembourgian would make the most sense), and a backstory. You don't need much more than a few sentences, so no need for a novel if you don't want to write one. Please bold your name and date of birth.
There is a cycle of play. In the first stage, players propose and vote for legislation. Each player has one vote. After a certain amount of time has passed, I will tally the votes and announce the results. After I tally the votes, time will advance and I will inform the players of the results of their actions, as well as other events that have happened in the world.
Example of game periods:
Legislation stage -> Update -> Elections and legislation -> Update -> Legislation stage
Every other period after an update, an election will occur. Players may choose to form parties and elect a member of their own as party leader. During the election, players will vote for a party and/or a candidate. After the tallying of the votes is complete, parliamentary results will be given. Please always bold your votes for easy counting.
Here is an example ballot during an election:
Example bill: No
Example second bill: No
Party: Generic Party One
Candidate: John Doe
A party must have a platform. This platform may be roleplayed how you wish, but it must fall into an option provided here. I am aware that this simplifies things, but that's a good thing in my mind.
There are 5 types of issues, each with their own possible stances.
Here is a link to a list of each issue and stance.
One stance must be chosen from each issue.
The nation that shall be played is Belgium. The beginning of the game is in March 1833. In this timeline, the Dutch were forced by French troops to accept the existance of the Belgian state 6 years sooner than in our timeline. There will be an irregular update to 1836, then every other update will be a two-year, disregarding special circumstances.
Also note that we are going to need a fuckton of people to get this to run smoothly, so join even if you won't be very active roleplaying. Every vote counts.
I'll update this if I realize that I've forgotten something later. swedishbadgergirl, simbha, camarillobrillo, ThatsAFreeThinker, kingmudsy: here it is.
I'm going to wait for people to make characters, then y'all are gonna get the beginning update. Hope you enjoy. Lurkers, feel free to come out of the shadows. As many people as possible would be great.
EDIT: whatever characters you make, post them after I've made the initial updates in another thread on Friday, please. This is just to let y'all know how it will work.
Yay on rules post. Clears things up for first-timers like me.
Because a huge part of the political narrative in Belgium is based on language and culture divides between Dutch-speaking Flemings and French-speaking Walloons. Citizenship isn't divided, I just need a culture for your characters for it to make sense.
