I was reading the article The Most Important Question of Your Life on Mark Mansons site and came across the question I posed above. I would recommend giving that article a read too, I think he raises a lot of good points.
Personally, I've been willing to struggle to improve my physique and workout more often, I enjoy the feeling the day after a good workout and have recently started lifting weights more to replace the running that I'm not doing as often. Rebalancing what I do for workouts and trying to add weight again, which I was successful at last year.
As for what I want in life that's a much harder question but I think I would be willing to deal with a corporate hierarchy and move up the ladder until I become a desirable hire for any company, which would give me the flexibility to do what I want and where I want. I'm willing to struggle with learning the way companies and the business side of engineering works to get to that point. Plus, the pay that comes with it would be nice.
