::Resurrects Thread:: I collect quite a bit actually and for different reasons. I collect comics, in trade paperback form, for the stories. The cost of comics can be quote a bit, especially over time, so I'm very selective about the books I collect. I want good stories and good art. I also collect antiques, though my collecting has slowed down significantly in the past few years. They can get expensive easily and just sit there collecting dust, so there's not much practical use to collecting antiques. That said, I love trying to research something and learn about it. You'd be amazed at what you can learn about manufacturing, politics, business, and history just by researching antiques. The thrill of haggling and bargain hunting is a bonus as well. Lastly, I collect cds, movies, and books, mostly because I just don't feel like letting them go.
I've never played Magic, sounds like I should tread lightly so as not to get addicted. I've been known to play some Settlers of Catan. -Great game that What are the board games my wife and I should check out?
Magic is a game that you can have fun with for any amount of money or time you put into it but if you have any sort of impulse to optimize or just best your friends it's a slippery slope. The current card du jour[1], for instance, preordered for $60 per card, and you can use up to 4 of the same card in a deck. I got into in part to meet new people at my school and as a part of my goal to be proficient in everything stereotypically nerdy. Of all the games I've played I would recommend you and your wife try out is either Elder Sign or Arkham Horror if you haven't already. We really like them because they are cooperative games which can be refreshing after trying to backstab everyone in Munchkin. Arkham Horror does take a long time to learn and play as it is closer to a pen and paper RPG then most board games. Elder Sign is a shorter version of Arkham Horror, in essence, which uses cards instead of a board but keeps the same atmosphere and cooperative playstyle. As a side note, one game I really want to get is Roborally[2] which I played at the last computer science student society get together. You use cards to program a robot to move around an arena, capture flags, and harm your opponents. [1] http://store.tcgplayer.com/product.aspx?id=57619

Thanks for the recommendations.
Two pals and I still play from time to time. We get a few boosters each of whatever set it out, build 40 card decks, and play for swap (winner's choice) ante. Since we all have the same number of cards to work from, it makes for good games.
I was gifted a collection of vinyl from a family friend that passed away last year. He had an amazing Beatles and T-Rex collection. His son is about 14 years old right now and not really very responsible (even for a 14 year old) and unfortunately, the adults in his life don't seem all that stellar either. When he is older and can appreciate it, I plan on giving him his fathers collection. Until then, I'll take very good care of them and enjoy listening. When I was a kid I collected baseball cards and recently I found the collection when visiting my parents. Also in there were basketball cards and some garbage pail kids. They're probably valuable (they're all in great condition) I think they'll go to my great-grandkids someday.
