Damn, that's an incredible contrast. I can't see how Israel continues to justify these killings, especially given that this wasn't their land in the first place.

This whole situation is real fucking complicated, and who "owned" (given the concept of land ownership prior to the 19th century was pretty vague) the land first is only one of many sides and sections of this conflict. This Thread has a lot of really great information in it, including additional sources and further reading. The ELI5 Megathread on Reddit also has some good info, but also has some shit (like reddit).
