In this post, we’re trying something new. Below, we present an almost line-by-line annotation of yesterday’s New York Times story on US and Yemeni military operations in Yemen. Among other things, the following is intended to identify legal implications of the news being reported, the significance of some of the revelations, and paths for further investigative reporting.
This is very, very interesting food for thought. However, a lot of their argument boils down to "needs more nuance" -- because drone strikes are an extremely nuanced subject, definitely -- but "needs more nuance" is, to the NYT, a synonym for "goodbye pageviews." Anyway, this is an extremely refreshing, unbiased article. Excellent post.
Even though I try my best to keep up with these sorts of foreign affairs I like how the analysis ties together things I may have read but forgot, like mentioning the leaked cable between Petraeus and the Yemeni President.
I would very much enjoy more content like this if people are creating it.
