If hostilities escalate, Gazprom is among the companies facing the greatest uncertainty due to its key gas pipeline which runs through the country.

I'm not sure Moscow will be very worried about this sell off in the short term. What is this war about if not rights of way for Russia to sell gas and oil to Europe? They have had many disputes with Ukraine over the last decade or so, several of which have disrupted supply to the EU. I think this is a calculated move by Russia to gain greater access to markets. They know that the diplomatic row will subside, and that all will be forgiven when they can sell more natural gas to the West at a better price.

It's not yet a war. I certainly think that the issue of exporting natural gas is a big part of what's going on, but don't forget that those warm-water ports are of great strategic value, all economics aside.
