He means "the book." There actually is a non-Will Smith version of I, Robot but it's a script by Isaac Asimov and Harlan Ellison that was basically killed by Star Wars: It's not a great script. The concept art is pretty dope. The Will Smith version was actually a spec script called Hardwired that they welded the 3 laws of robotics onto. If you're a fan of Clarke and you haven't read Rendezvous with Rama, that's the one you need to read. It is, in my opinion, the best book he ever wrote. I include 2001, Childhood's End, Sands of Mars, Songs of Distant Earth and Hammer of God in that list.
Rendezvous with Rama is my favorite science fiction story, second only to The Mote in God's Eye.
