Ahmadinejad is in a tough position. He's in a struggle with Khamenei for primacy while trying to keep a lid on any popular dissent like the green movement. This against the backdrop of an economy with rumors of bank runs and a declining currency makes for a tough political position.

Don't you find it incredible that these things happen right as GOP primaries are occurring? If you've watched any of the debates, you will have noted that they talk a lot about Iran. In fact, it seems like the GOP finds Iran to be a bigger threat than the US economy. It would be incredibly convenient for them if the public thought Iran had nukes and the ability/desire to use them against the US. Just saying, there are republican strategist sitting somewhere wringing their grubby little hands with joy. "It's working, my precious"
They only seem interested in discussing how the other side is fucking things up. As far as putting forth actual ideas, they seem satisfied with the idea of repealing everything Obama has done, as if that's an "idea". Beyond that its all platitudes which is par for the course no matter which team you play for.
