She noted that for Toups, the issue of the jail's condition is a personal one. "He does have family members that are incarcerated," she says. Man, maybe if more people went to the library, there would be fewer people in jail?"The library is not saying we don't need a jail," Sanders says. Originally constructed in 1968 and expanded in 1977, the jail is in poor condition and suffers overcrowding.
My mom is a librarian, I hear a little bit about the politics of libraries and how demography effects usage. I bet that these are pretty busy libraries with such low internet penetration and a large non-English speaking population. I bet more funds for the library would decrease the misery index in this population.
