I have a friend who works at the Marshall District Library in Marshall, MI. The librarians there recently discovered a bunch of old letters from authors and other celebrities that were sent to the library in 1978 where the authors were asked what their favorite books were. Today she got around to posting them online and there are some really great treats in here from some great people including:
The Carpenters
Barbara Walters
Bob Newhart
Dick Cavett
Isaac Asimov
Hunter S. Thompson
Maurice Sendak
Neil Armstrong
They would like some requests for their 2014 program which will do the same thing so feel free to suggest some on the site!
I remember seeing some extended footage or something from a documentary where she for some reason led a small group of people on a tour of her flat in New York. It was an incredibly generic sort of place but just her being there redefined the atmosphere completely. What an unbelievable person she was.
Awesome suggestions! I'll add all of these to our list and add a link on here when the return letters go live in April. If any of you are around Marshall when we have them up, drop by and I'll pull out some of the actual letters for you (we will likely put out copies), just ask for Chelsea. (And yes thenewgreen - Marshall has an awesome brewery called Dark Horse, about a half mile from the library, and with a nice little beer garden. Definitely a place to check out during the warmer months!)
Here's my list of people I would be interested to know about in regards to their reading lists: 1. Elon Musk 2. Stephen King 3. Jeff Tweedy 4. Bill Moyers 5. Bill Murray 6. Banksy -You can pass that along to your friend. Have her swing by Hubski. Marshall Michigan has an awesome brew pub, right?
I'll admit, I have had a beer or two, but where is the pun here?
Ah... as in "less filling" and "tastes great"? Remember those? -Wow, think they have a target demographic...?
The pun (or at least I thought it was one) was just me saying "fill" as in "fill up a glass of beer" and fill as in "There are a lot of microbreweries" Now I'm beginning to doubt whether it was a pun at all! Maybe more of a Double entendre, maybe I'm just crazy :D
