I really wish that I was able to see what was scaring them.
I think it's a secret. But I read in an article somewhere that, in the dark, the visitors would hear car tires screeching and a horn blaring and a video of a rapidly-approaching car would be projected on the wall right before the photo was taken. So, death. Imminent death was scaring them.
