I think this is a really interesting topic to address. In the past, the price of art has been tied to the individual artist's technical skill in their medium. For example, nobles and royals and all manner of rich/powerful people have paid painters or sculptors to capture their likenesses and musicians and writers to produce works for their pleasure. For a while, the patronage system was used, but with the sheer volume of people producing works of art in various disciplines today, it's pretty clear why we've moved away from that model. When it comes to digital art, there are so many questions. For example, how is it to be consumed? How does it reflect and affect the society that produced it? In short, the question for digital art seems very much to be, "what is its value" in the many sense of the word "value." It will be interesting to see how it develops.
