I have a short question about the American election system. In Germany there's a difference between not going to vote and make your vote invalid by either voting for multiple things or just hand in an empty sheet. It also influences the final result, since not going to vote makes the strongest parties get a higher percentage. (Small example: 9 people go to vote, 5 vote party A, 4 vote party B. 55,5% for party A and 44,4% for party B. If you go to vote and hand in an invalid vote, it's the following scenario: 5 vote for party A, 4 vote for party B, 1 invalid, making it 50% and 40% instead of the former ones.)
Is that possible American elections? Only in some, for example not the presidential ones? And do those invalid votes count anywhere, or do they count as if you didn't go to the vote at all?
Thanks for the clarification!
