Awesome, that's a neat feature! My only recommendation would be to put some sort of sticky symbol next to posts that I have stickied, or maybe give it a different colored wheel?

That might be nice. I endeavor to keep things as clean as possible, but I'll try some things out and see if anything looks good.

UPDATE: added an icon. Thanks.

Awesome!

I'd like to advocate for delta's below idea of simply indenting stickied posts a bit to the right. And if you end up sticking (hehe) with the pin button, I'd like to request being able to click on the pin to unstick the post.

Thanks for your awesome work!

And if you end up sticking (hehe) with the pin button, I'd like to request being able to click on the pin to unstick the post.

I just implemented that today. Thanks!

Perhaps we could change the feature name to "pin" to match the icon. It sounds more appropriate for what it does, anyway.

mk  ·  3851 days ago  ·  link  ·

You might be right. Will it confuse Pinterest folk? I've never used it.

user-inactivated  ·  3851 days ago  ·  link  ·

I haven't either. I don't think we have a Pinterest population here, no worries. If it confuses people, we could just add in a bit about pinning things on the tutorial.

mk  ·  3851 days ago  ·  link  ·

You're probably right. I think I like 'pin' more than 'stick' too. I'll change it soon.

I have never once used interest but I would still equate "pin" to that site. For that reason I would steer clear of that language. It's a pretty well branded verb and I'd rather not be associated with that site.

edit: My wife suggests making it look like a sticky-note. Also, without any prompting she said that "pin" was way too pinterest like.

thenewgreen, I respectfully disagree. I don't think we should let popular sites determine what's best. What you're saying is the equivalent of wanting to change the tags on Hubski because it's too similar to Twitter. Also, a small identifiable sticky note icon would be hard to design while still appearing pleasantly on the site. A yellow square just wouldn't look the best, I'm afraid.

Perception is reality and in my case I see the action to "pin" something as being decidedly more proprietary than "tagging" something. "tagging" is a now ubiquitous action done across a wide network of sites. Perhaps "pinning" is too and I'm just ignorant of it. -Not an unlikely thing. I also just like the term "sticky" way better. It was immediately what forwardslash called it and it just seemed "right". You want that post to "stick" around longer. Makes more sense to me.

I agree with delta I would hate to cede a useful verb for such a reason. I do like pin. I guess we'll have to take a vote. :)

Indenting the post a bit to the right would be a viable option, though I don't think it's imperative to include. It would be a nice feature to have, though.

This seems like it would be a good option.
