Sometimes you simply want to keep a post in your feed for a while. Sticky posts allows you to do that. Click on the 'stick' link on a post, and that post will remain on the top of your feed until you 'unstick' it.
That's it.
You can thank forwardslash for this one. It's one of those ideas that seemed so useful that we had to implement it straight away.
As always feedback is much appreciated.
Damn. That was fast. 12 hour turnaround time. You are going to spoil us all.
Awesome! I'd like to advocate for delta's below idea of simply indenting stickied posts a bit to the right. And if you end up sticking (hehe) with the pin button, I'd like to request being able to click on the pin to unstick the post. Thanks for your awesome work!
I have never once used interest but I would still equate "pin" to that site. For that reason I would steer clear of that language. It's a pretty well branded verb and I'd rather not be associated with that site. edit: My wife suggests making it look like a sticky-note. Also, without any prompting she said that "pin" was way too pinterest like.
thenewgreen, I respectfully disagree. I don't think we should let popular sites determine what's best. What you're saying is the equivalent of wanting to change the tags on Hubski because it's too similar to Twitter. Also, a small identifiable sticky note icon would be hard to design while still appearing pleasantly on the site. A yellow square just wouldn't look the best, I'm afraid.
Perception is reality and in my case I see the action to "pin" something as being decidedly more proprietary than "tagging" something. "tagging" is a now ubiquitous action done across a wide network of sites. Perhaps "pinning" is too and I'm just ignorant of it. -Not an unlikely thing. I also just like the term "sticky" way better. It was immediately what forwardslash called it and it just seemed "right". You want that post to "stick" around longer. Makes more sense to me.
I've already mentioned this to insomniasexx, but upon discovering Hubski and perusing all the different features and options, one of the things that I found myself thinking a lot was: "Oh cool! I always wanted that feature on Reddit." However this time, I didn't even know that I wanted this feature, but I definitely love it now. It feels like it was an obvious feature that most similar sites would have. Anyway, keep up the fantastic work, guys.
Neat! Previously, I would simply save a post and get back to it through my profile. This keeps you from having to go through those extra steps though and I'd assume would likely keep you engaged in discussion a lot better since it is instantly presented to you (and therefore you're reminded of it) whenever you browse through your feed.
