Is it dirty
does it look dirty
that's what you think of in the city
does it just seem dirty
that's what you think of in the city
you don't refuse to breathe do you
someone comes along with a very bad character
he seems attractive. is he really. yes. very
he's attractive as his character is bad. is it. yes
that's what you think of in the city
run your finger along your no-moss mind
that's not a thought that's soot
and you take a lot of dirt off someone
is the character less bad. no. it improves constantly
you don't refuse to breathe do you
Thanks for the tip about Roman Mars. What beautiful podcasts and the layout of his page makes one want to listen. It is easy to be beautiful; it is difficult to appear so.
O'Hara's nailed that!
I always liked this part from Meditations in an Emergency "One need never leave the confines of New York to get all the greenery one wishes—I can't even enjoy a blade of grass unless I know there's a subway handy, or a record store or some other sign that people do not totally regret life." There's even a very good 99% Invisible podcast partly based around it.
I've been on a Roman Mars binge for a week or so now. That's how I came across this myself. I'm not that familiar with much poetry, but I like O'Hara so far.
