I was told to check out Sylvan Esso from a new friend whose music taste I am unsure of. Anyone ever listen to them?
I seem to be at the age where I just listen to the same stuff I listened to last year and the year before. But it's good! A song off Rural Alberta Advantage's current album. I love everything they've done, and the current album is no exception. Metric is one of my favorite bands, and they have new singles out ahead of the new album. I'm looking forward to hearing the full album and hopefully catching some shows. Nothing can touch the shows when they would play ten minute versions of Dead Disco, but I love seeing them play any song.
Plug In Plug Out has acoustic versions of songs off the full length Fantasies (which is my favorite Metric album). There are a couple other songs out from the forthcoming Pagans In Vegas, but here are some from previous albums. The last album was called Synthetica, and one of the singles was Youth Without Youth. It has a similar feel: Fantasies came before Synthetica. As you go backwards in Metric time the synthesizers become less prominent. They're still there, but they don't stand out as much. One to try from Fantasies (and it isn't on Plug In Plug Out) is Stadium Love:
Eh. They flirted with some of the concepts of metal, though I don't think it'd be fair to call any of their albums "metal" (though Fire of an Unknown Origin did come pretty close). I just brought them up more along the lines of they're a good, classic band that had their day, but people don't give them credit anymore because they're definitely dated.
Personally, I don't think there's any reason to be ashamed of listening to Dio. Holy Diver is one of the few metal albums I can really get into.
