What I do Comics, Music, etc is not for everyone or intended to be.

- Every piece of art is one half of a secret handshake
I believe this completely the market, creativity etc are all secondary to the human need to find other people like themselves to find a tribe. Most of us are even willing to fudge on the handshake but I fear this leads to a different kind of loneliness.
I Enjoy the internet and the folks I met here I am old enough to get a science fiction thrill from interacting/collaborating with folks from around the world but the tournament nature of the place has got me a bit down. [Not in the chemical sense of my depression which to me seems external but in a sort of existential way.]
So how do I make sure the message is passed to those who need to see it? Hubski is great and I have made friends here. Reddit/Youtube are horrible cesspools but I get more eyes on the work.
Forums seem to be very cliquish and given to groupthink.
So any advice general or for me in particular?
Alternative to Viral is slow steady growth? I think that whatever the 'Object of Virility' is, it must possess certain traits, with one of them being that it communicates something that the majority of people encountering it can easily digest and will respond to. Has to have low friction both in understanding and relateablity. What that is doesn't matter, it just needs to have some universal, easily grokked element. If it isn't easily digestible and speaking to mass culture, then it seems that a steady slog is the other way. The only thing I can think of is that if your Object of Virility is specific enough to have a niche audience somewhere, then you could take it to them there, where they are, and have it go viral on a smaller "subcultural" scale within that niche, but that presupposes a clearly defined fringe audience that are already gathered in one place (either in the real world or digitally).
This is sort of what I was thinking, JakobVirgil, but you raise good points -- that's the sort of culture that's very resistant to externalities, and you're not really broadening anyone's tastes either. By the way, I hope this is a joke:The only thing I can think of is that if your Object of Virility is specific enough to have a niche audience somewhere, then you could take it to them there, where they are, and have it go viral on a smaller "subcultural" scale within that niche, but that presupposes a clearly defined fringe audience that are already gathered in one place (either in the real world or digitally).

Has Mike done done other stuff ? yeah looking for a sub-culture but not a niche-cult i.e. banjo enthusiasts. They tell you to make the art you want to see but I think
I my the only one who wants to see apocalyptic drawings on napkins by near hobos
In my dreams logarithmic growth is perfect. Pre-existing niches are not all that satisfying and when interested based usually a bad fit
and can be very territorial. Looking a community of like-minded misfits maybe I should just take up smoking weed. Of course I get different needs met different places Banjo-hangout, Roguebasin, here. I am prolly just having post-punk fits.
Can you expand upon the 'tournament nature' part? Are you looking for a better channel for your works? Twitter seems like it would be very good for your comics. However, I think the switch from 'push' to 'pull' for creations will always remain a difficult thing to find. IMHO consistency seems to reign above everything else in this department. I had a blog, and the difference in response to daily posts to biweekly posts was significant.I Enjoy the internet and the folks I met here I am old enough to get a science fiction thrill from interacting/collaborating with folks from around the world but the tournament nature of the place has got me a bit down.
it is a game theory economics thing tournaments are games with lots of contestants few winners they are great for the people that put them on. Example $100 entry fee 100 entrants give 1st place $500 second $250 third $150 give out ribbons pocket $9100 - the cost of the ribbons. The lottery, sports industry, music industry the arts are all tournaments it is a way to get people to work for free. Facebook, reddit, twitter and hubski (to a lesser extent) are kinda like tournaments but you don't give out prizes. Smart folks avoid tournaments and seek out more level games. Constancy is a strange bird what an artist does not publish is more important than what he does. Listening to Jimi Hendrix's outtake box set would disabuse anyone who thinks he is infallible. Of course I am not very good at this.
I meant not good at editing or curating my work. I have the last chapters worked out but not done. Found them about a week ago. When your house moves it is amazing what gets lost.
