One of the most wonderful parts of this song, and in my mind this is the best version of “Hallelujah” recorded (yes, better than Jeff Buckley - who did of course record an excellent rendition himself), is that Leonard Cohen himself was Jewish not just in heritage, but in practice. So let’s score a point for elizabeth, lil, someguyfromcanada, and the extended Hubski Canadian family.

While there are your typical uses of the word in Judaism and Christianity, I think a non-traditional and probably incorrect (historically, absolutely incorrect) application of the word is that of spiritual healing or the pursuit of spiritual healing - spiritual, not necessarily religious. I find tinges of that in this song.
