I tend to think more about what my ancestors did. As obvious as it my sound I still find it amazing that I have had an ancestor alive at every point in human history. When the great pyramids were built, when Jesus lived, during the Norman conquest. I find it fascinating to think about what they looked like, what they were called, how long they lived etc.

I really like Duolingo as the steak system keeps me motivated to do at least one question per day. I really need to catch up on Memrise though as I have over 1200 words to review and 500 more to learn.

I think that tag system could work, as it would allow both people who are interested in resources related to all languages as well as those who are interested only in a specific one to find the content.

Fractalus  ·  3216 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: What book(s) are your favorite read?

I was interesting to see if this would be here as Reddit seems to be in love with it, but I can't for the life of me see why. I really enjoyed it up until he escaped from the prison. The bits with Edmond and the Abbé in the Château d'If were amazing, but as soon as he escaped and became the Count, I lost all interest in the character and ultimately the book. After that, I found it incredibly tedious and confusing, with hundreds of characters (and pages). The ending didn't even feel worth it as it was so incredibly predictable, and it felt more like relief when I finished it than anything else. The only other person I know who's read it agrees with me. I'm curious to hear what other people liked about the book that I clearly did not.

I'd say it's not good by House of Cards standards, but it's still makes for very good television. My main criticism (though probably intentional) is the fact that there are fewer fourth wall breaks from Frank which were what got me hooked at the start. That said, it's still pretty enjoyable and sets up nicely for the next season(s).

Really good show. What's amazing is that I was hooked from the very first scene, which doesn't often happen. It usually takes at least an episode.
