I feel like these need a bit of explanation; they're old, a bit weird, and don't really resemble much else I've ever done. But I came across them recently and was a bit surprised by what I thought of them now.
A lot of these are from around late highschool for me. I had some not-so-great Line6 program which I made these with (it was back in Line6's earlier days). You were pretty restricted in what you could do for recording, but it had a bunch of OK emulators for amps and effects. So with this, a bass, occasionally a couple borrowed guitars which I couldn't play very well yet, and some free VST's that I played with the computer keyboard, I came up with these songs.
I found out that if you take a really campy, sterile-sounding VST and run it through a gritty tube amp emulator, you can get some kinda cool sounds out of it (like in 3 or 8). So yeah, it's pretty low fi, tube amp emulators everywhere. The worst, though, was the shitty drum machines which you couldn't really avoid. And I'll admit I had to edit-out a really bad guitar intro that was in one of them.
A weird thing about these songs is that I can't really attribute any specific influence to them. They were entirely a product of me working with the limited constraints of the software and setup I had. Still, some of these I think have held up pretty well, at least in parts. I thought I ought to let people check them out.
Track 2 is a showdown scene for sure. Or maybe an introspective car ride on the way to some ass-kicking. Track 3 is some "realization" music. I think some of these tracks would be really great atmospheric music. The dynamics stay fairly consistent throughout and there's kind of a muted, almost muddy quality to them which I think lends itself to a scene.
