What? Some philanthropists dare to ask how effective their contributions are at relieving human suffering? And creditors are actually making money on their loans to poor people? Somebody please tell Dr. Yunus to cut it out already.

Buffett fils worries that "People will rise above making $2 a day to enter our world of goods and services so they can buy more." Yes, that seems to be very much what they are interested in doing, and they are doing a bang-up job of it. What do you say we let them do as they please?

Dream up new schemes if you like, but do consider giving some credit to the paradigm that has already relieved more poverty than any other program, albeit with the downside of creating a few mega-wealthy philanthropists, and their whining offspring.
