- he president did something no other holder of his office has ever had the life experience to do: He used the bully pulpit to, as an African-American, explain black America to white America in the wake of last week's acquittal of George Zimmerman in the shooting death of unarmed teenager Trayvon Martin.
The "unimpressed" link is entitled: Obama tries to break it to the left that the DOJ’s not going to prosecute Zimmerman I think that everyone has co-opted Trayvon Martin's death. At this point Trayvon is become Brahma with many faces reciting not the Vedas but the excuses of his defenders, the excuses of his tormenter, the cries of his family and the war cries of his foes. He own voice stolen while everyone around him uses his corpse for a puppet-show morality play with no end ... only a distraction for an audience divided amongst ourselves.
I will be shocked the day that Obama does something like this for the sake of doing it rather than in response to a political pressure.I think that everyone has co-opted Trayvon Martin's death.
Oh, absolutely. But, it's a good springboard for conversations that are worth having. That said, I do think that the "unimpressed" link is spot on, the DOJ is not going to pursue anything further and Obama had to somehow appease the left. That is why the speech occurred.
As I said in another comment, I will be shocked the day that Obama gives such a speech for the sake of the greater good rather than as a result of political expediency or opportunism.
Has he ever done anything useful? I mean, you can dis/like GWB but if you look at his Africa policies (almost unknown in the US) you can see something amazing. My in-laws hated GWB (Canadian liberals) but it turns out Medicare Part D has both saved money and improved health. (Contrary to my predictions, BTW) Obama's got, what? -XC
Here's what I think the history books will write, not saying it will be all truly Obama's doing or that they're great accomplishments: 1. Bin Laden 2. Saving the banks and therefore our financial system 3. Image abroad -though I think this tide is turning 4. I think his admin will be seen as the one that pivoted from a middle east centric foreign policy to an asian one 5. Got rid of Bush era restrictions of stem cell research 6. Same sex equality 7. Ending war in Iraq, drawing Afghanistan to a close.
1> 90% done by GWB. Remember Quadaffi? 2> Ditto above. 3> LOL 4> Hahahaha 5> Did not actually exist except in MSM meme. Was restriction on 10% of funding (gov't) on part of protocol. 6> Federal only. Enacted and signed by Donk's. 7> Losing Vietnam. Err...
