I'm visiting a place near Lake Huron (near the Bruce Nuclear Reactor) where there are some windmill farms and lots of room for more. The battle between the pro vs anti windmill groups is fierce. I'm pro-windmill. I believe effects on human health are negligible and the wind turbine syndrome seems primarily caused by anti-wind-turbine campaigns.

The effect on birds is another matter. Bird death and wind turbines: a look at the evidence cites numerous studies. Some say effects on birds are negligible, some say otherwise. In the case of the single, rare white-throated needletail, it's windmill 1: bird 0.

There are apparently ways to make wind turbines less hazardous to birds. I hope these safeguards are made mandatory.

Meanwhile, up here in the land of wind turbines and nuclear reactors, the swallows did not come back this year and my hosts are wondering where they are.
