Definitely not hard to imagine how revolutionary something like an ultralight metallic lattice could be. If it is strong enough (an, of course, scalable), it would go a long way to improving gas mileage, for instance. Even if they weren't doing anything structural to the car or airplane, but just using it as a dampening and impact material, and on trim, they could probably drop hundreds of pounds from the weight (for those of you who are unaware, every free inch of your car between the facade and the interior is covered in spray foam that is pretty heavy in the aggregate).
