I find a lot of the points raised in this fascinating and spot on. I'd not had the thought that perhaps the very idea that humans will evolve according to natural selection is incorrect; that in the future humans will mold their own evolution.

However, I think that it's a solid conclusion. I'm reminded of this video that incorporates a monologue by Carl Sagan about the humans of the future.

I hope with Carl that we will become so much more than we are.

That video by Carl Sagan is one of my favourite videos on YouTube and perfectly incapsulates my thoughts, feelings, and hopes about our future as a species. It will not be we that visit our nearest star systems... but a species very much like us. The simple passage of generations will have changed us! So beautiful.

And yes, biological evolution will not be the primary driver of change in our species. We are different from all other species in that respect. How technological evolution plays out over the next few centuries is really unknown. But it will surely drive our change. We have no knowledge of how a process like this plays out... we can only try and understand it as best we can. In fact, I feel as though understanding this process is the most important thing we can do as a species. It will help us direct it as prudently as we can.
