You don't really need to replace your PC every few years to keep up with technology anymore. The average user needs to be able to run a modern web browser and play streaming media, computers from five years ago can do this. Many gamers are still trying to stay on the bleeding edge but I think upgrade pressure for them has even slacked a bit. Seems like we are on the edge of a big revolution in integrated graphics which will probably be a blow to video card manufacturer's, lessening the need to upgrade some components in a way similar to the decline in the need for dedicated sound cards.
