The real problem is that they now assume that the media will make fun of them no matter what. They assume that everything is biased against them. This means that whenever they are mocked (rightfully or not) that it just plays back into the narrative that tells them that the media will mock them. I don't know how you break this, and it bothers me.
Those are symptoms of paranoid delusions. That some people behave this way is inevitable, as the world is always going to have crazies, and that's OK. That this many people are having paranoid delusions is nothing short of a phenomenon. If it wasn't so frustrating it would be interesting to just observe. Unfortunately, this kind of shit has real world implications like climate change denial and the Iraq War, the greatest delusion of modern conservatism. (Today is the 10 year anniversary of when W went all cowboy and gave Saddam 48 hours to get out of town.
