This was a great article. I'm very much opposed to the military industrial complex and war profiteering, and agree that if you remove the profit from war, the desire for further far goes away. At this point though, we have invested so much money and so many jobs into the military that a sharp reduction would be detrimental to the economy. I would like to perhaps see the department of defense budget reduced in two ways. The first being to simply cut the budget and reallocate it to different government agencies, or be done with it altogether. The second is to shift some of the funding from various agencies within the DoD to DARPA, or it's research arm. The one good thing that comes out of the ridiculous amount of money spent is all of the military based research, of which a lot of the technology eventually becomes used in civilian based technologies.
