jemiller, I picked soccer back up as a hobby this past season. I then promptly snapped my metatarsal in half on the field and am in a cast. Pretty happy as it doesn't require surgery and it's not motorcycle weather here, so not a big deal.

I don't even want to know what kind of luck would have a hospital writing that to you. Ow.

Oh that's terrible. Are you going to continue? I'd rather suffer some injuries now and then than to play it too safely.

Yes, I just missed the start of a new season, but they are only 8 weeks long, so I think I might be able to play in the next one. I actually find out tomorrow if I can take my air cast off. I'm actually cheating and left the house without it today. The foot surgeon alleges that I'l be completely good to go in three months, and that was about a month ago so we'll see.

I'll definitely be wearing an ankle brace for extra support though, as that's how the injury happened. I turned my ankle and extended the tendon that was attached to the metatarsal and it literally just pulled the bone apart.

It sounds like I wouldn't want to have to face you on the opposing team, -you go all out don't you? ;)

Hey that's wonderful. All the best to you tomorrow. My ankle did a similar thing: as I landed on the outside of my foot, it pulled the tendons ripping them a little, but the tedons were still strong enough and the force of landing was strong enough to pull a tiny piece of my fibula off. This injury happened in August of 2012 and I didn't see a doctor until I reinjured it the day before new years eve. Even the day that it was originally injured, I played for another half hour before deciding that playing with pain that great would probably make matters worse.

My devotion to the sport came to be three years ago when I was 15. Having only played as a hobby around the neighborhood and in a ymca league five years prior, I then felt the need for a more difficult challenge: high school soccer. The problem with that was that my ball control and tactical knowledge was subpar for even a 13 year old at the same level. So to improve and make the team, I studied and practiced for 20 days worth of time out of four months. I became addicted and that addiction is still apparent today. At deeper level, the challenge is really the addiction but I prefer the package to presented as soccer currently. This is a contributing factor to my being injury prone.

Thanks, I try to go all out every time but my work ethic and skills aren't a fair match I suspect.

What position to you play? I'm a striker/ attacking center mid./ right winger/ right mid.

Recently I played mostly defense, but back when I was in gradeschool I was a striker.

Just make sure you take care of yourself and respect your injuries and body. If you really love the sport, take injuries as seriously as the pros do. You wouldn't catch a pro playing with a possibly broken foot or torn tendon because they are in it for the long haul :) You only get one body!

Only 513 days till the World Cup in Brazil :)

I guess you're right, but being away from the game scratches at my brain like fingernails on a chalk board. The doc said if I don't heal properly and strengthen the are, I very well may continue to injure it.

I love the World Cup! Prostitutes are apparently learning some English in preparation. Do you think the US will qualify? Mexico is the team I'm watching this time around. In 2012, they won most of their friendlies. They're are consistently competing well against Brazil.
