UC Berkeley scientists have developed a system to capture visual activity in human brains and reconstruct it as digital video clips. Eventually, this process will allow you to record and reconstruct your own dreams on a computer screen.
This is really really exciting. We are in the future. What I find odd is that they have reconstruct the video by combining different video clips, like there wouldn't be any systematic transfer function from brain activity to images and vice versa, but just matching sets of data. Or maybe deriving the transfer function is just really complicated and this seems like a first step to prove that it could work.

I'm hoping that like you suggest, it's just "really complicated" and that eventually a "systematic transfer" will be possible. However, till then this is still pretty amazing stuff.

"I'm simultaneously excited and terrified". -This sums my feelings on this up well.
