I think there is definitely ,a if you don't play you can't win, element to things. un-submited manuscripts almost never get published getting a job you did not apply for is a bit rare.

But I think there are a lot of folks that win the proverbial lottery and become convinced they are really good at picking lottery numbers.

But I think there are a lot of folks that win the proverbial lottery and become convinced they are really good at picking lottery numbers. Absolutely, without a doubt, this exists. And you hit it on the head, if you don't take a swing you can't hit the ball. That simple. But SOO many people don't take the swing and complain about never hitting the ball. It's baffling.
