I like have four styles to choose from (even ugly could be useful on a poor connection), but two of them are stark white, and I'm not particularly fond of the grey of the default style. Would anyone else be interested in a new, more vibrant style? Something with a bit of color? Maybe the mods/creators/pantheon (I don't know what we call the folks in charge, I'm new) would deign to grant us this boon.
A little bit of color wouldn't hurt. But i'd prefer a real toned down theme rather than a vibrant pop of color. Solely because i browse hubski at work and would like to avoid it attracting any attention(to someone passing by my cubicle) due to it's color scheme(if that makes sense).
Something light-gray and blue would be easy on the eyes. Maybe something like this, but with more desaturated blues, perhaps.
I was just wondering about the topic of styles today, as I find the "followed blue" in the dark style quite hard to read. Would it be possible/reasonable to allow users to apply their own custom style? I'm thinking of something along the lines of reddit's custom CSS for subreddits, but at the user level. I'm sure it's a feature that not too many people would use directly, but it could result in a few people creating popular style sheets that get copied by others, and it would allow people to tweak things to their liking. I'm a developer, but I rarely delve into the web world, so forgive me if this is totally unrealistic.
It's definitely not a priority with me as the only set of hands, but I'm not against the idea. It could be fun and interesting. In the short term we will have to live with the in-house styles. But, maybe when we I get more free time or more coders climb aboard.
Well, speaking of more coders, would you be willing to share the technology stack you are using, and what you would like to see before you give someone access to the site's source? I'm mostly a Windows guy, and I saw you mention Linode somewhere, but I'm all for learning new things.
