IMHO “billionaire class” is political bait, and the debate around AI using the same stuff we do to learn is a distraction from the existential matter at hand. What I see, is a laissez-faire approach that will let it get away from us, and a social engineering approach that will enslave us all. We’re in trouble.
Nah. We are, and always have been, in class warfare. "Billionaire class" is admittedly reductionist and imperfect, but effective rhetoric. And indeed, I'm less concerned about this tech being able to do what it's billed to be able to do than about the effectiveness of the social engineering approach. People are continuing to worship technocratic morons who have gained their wealth by exploiting the anti-social tendencies of the American capitalist system.
