I just tried to post this piece myself. I generally avoid posting political pieces, preferring instead the sane world of science, but things have gotten way out of hand. What can we do? This affects us all, and it makes me sad.

Move to Norway? ;)

Seriously, I don't know. From the history I have read, it seems that at certain times societies are driven to a fevered pitch of madness. I think we are headed in that direction.

I understand that there exists a rational conservative worldview. However, the Republican party in the US does not represent it.

If tax cuts were the real concern, the GOP would not be against extending the payroll tax cut for workers. Corporate money has polluted US politics and media, and the GOP is in general, the party more closely aligned with these entities.

For example, it is laughable that global warming is a political position. Despite scientific concensus on global warming, and abundant hard evidence for it, these facts are willfully obscured by industries and politicians supporting those industries that do not want the regulation that the situation calls for.

I don't know what the eventual outcome will be, or what can be done. However, the GOP has been extremely savvy and aggressive whereas the Democratic party has been weak and inept. Personally, I wish a strong Democratic leader would challenge Obama. The President seems to be in the best position to give the country a wake up call, and I have not heard it.
