“… it is a massive change and it does alter the fact that people don’t make as much money out of records. But I have a take on that – people only made money out of records for a very, very small time. When The Rolling Stones started out, we didn’t make any money out of records because record companies wouldn’t pay you! They didn’t pay anyone! Then, there was a small period from 1970 to 1997, where people did get paid, and they got paid very handsomely and everyone made money. But now that period has gone. So if you look at the history of recorded music from 1900 to now, there was a 25 year period where artists did very well, but the rest of the time they didn’t.”

Aaron Bastani wrote Fully Automated Luxury Communism. George Gilder wrote... Reaganomics, basically. Everything that went wrong with capitalism? Mutherfucker was on the ground floor. One thing they both agree on? Capitalism requires a choke point in order to function. One other thing they agree on? There is no inherent advantage to Google or Spotify or Amazon in a blockchain economy because public blockchains eliminate those chokepoints.

From a technological standpoint it is dumbly easy to host video conferencing. It's an open protocol. The only thing Twitch, Skype, Youtube, Whoever do is set up a walled garden where their proprietary addressing system hits their proprietary streaming switches.

Let's say Youtube pays me a buck a stream. they don't, they never will, but the math is easier. Off that buck, Youtube makes ten bucks. Now let's say I can stand up a client that aggregates everyone's RTSP streams, as well as their fees. All I need to do is host my shit somewhere, point that client at my RTSP streams and set a fee of, say, a buck and a dime. The client makes ten percent so now anybody can stream my shit for $1.21. Youtube's $9 profit just ate shit. Forever. Because if Youtube wants an exclusive, they have to pay more for it... or have a better network.

But networks are governed by Metcalfe's Law. Which was formulated by George Gilder. And if he's saying that Google is endangered?

Listen.
