Bitch, I'm a fucking twenty-two year old male. 23 now but you see my point. I come over to my parents' for a day and they try to make me stay for weeks.

I was out of the house at 18. I've been back maybe three weeks total since, the most recent in 2012 when both grandparents and an uncle died in the space of three days (saved me some time). To the best of my knowledge I've been written out of the will so I mean if you wanna turn this into a rebel yell cock-measuring contest, I'm down. I was trying to be reassuring but fuck me, I guess.

any opportunities or advantages I've ever had in life came from taking certain risks and being told repeatedly that "you gotta eat" by people who never even had a shit-job as a teenager, that straight up went directly into the family business and stayed there for 30+ years.

'k. I knew I was free-falling into an out-of-state education with no visible means of support so I took "you gotta eat" to heart. I was a club photographer too! Didn't make nearly as much money as being a club mixer, which didn't make nearly as much money as being an audiovisual consultant. My nightly rate literally became my hourly rate which, admittedly, made me a lot less edgy because

My question is - did they have their own band?

They didn't have time. Bear in mind Seattle has such a rivethead culture that there's six hours on the radio on Sunday even now. KMFDM moved here. Haujobb moved here. Assemblage 23 moved here. At the time there were four goth clubs. Mine was the biggest. We had goth shows two nights a week. And they never showed because they were too busy playing Marley covers. 'cuz Marley covers? $5k for a Saturday at a big club, split between six guys. Rivethead shit? four drink tickets a piece. it's great that your friend is occasionally "lucky" but luck isn't a strategy.

I question your statements about $6k/month apartments.

bruh. 1500sqft, $10k a month.

That's batshit crazy and I sense somebody's being holed up in the Ritz Carlton.

THAT IS THE POINT

I'm a dumbshit Canadian but I found this:

Right: do you think I was living in a $6k a month apartment? No, I was living in an $800/mo shithole with two neighbors who died of drive-bys and three tagged couches between me and the Metro. My favorite greek restaurant got wiped out by a gangland slaying. But I was working.

And do any of these rich kids fucking work?

THAT IS THE POINT

No they do not. My buddy on H5O? 27 solid months of 90 hour weeks for no pay so he could be a writer's assistant on Gray's Anatomy for no pay so he could get a credit on one episode so he could make $10k. While living at the Park LaBrea. Did he renew his drug habit? Oh yes he did. Did he nearly get divorced? Oh yes he did. Did he burn all of his friends? Oh yes he did. And the only reason he could do it is he had parents willing to sink $200k post-education into him "making it."

THAT IS THE POINT

Only reason I didn't do engineering was because I fucking hated everyone that went into it.

Hey, me too! And then I became one! And still hated everyone that went into it! And spent all my time with the club kids - you know, the ones playing a 60 minute set for drink tickets? And then my engineering degree allowed me to get a job where I could always and forever buy the drinks.

And I get that it's fun being edgy and lashing out when you overshare and I know how much you hate being seen through when you're being transparent and I know that shouting you're not my dad at the top of your lungs somehow makes you feel better but fuckin' hell dude I'm just trying to help and if every time I try to help you come back with 700 words of "fuck off?" I will definitely stop.
