The House should vote to impeach relatively soon, and then if the Senate acquits, they should just keep adding charges after beginning another impeachment inquiry into one (or several) of the veritable cornucopia of possibilities. Trump's tax returns might turn up another round of offenses within a few weeks or months. I guess the argument against is that it cheapens the potency of impeachment? In the meantime, any important bipartisan laws can be passed, but there's not much point to attempt passing anything remotely progressive, since McConnell's got his self-described "legislative graveyard". Edit: Along came a perfect example of bipartisan legislation: Senators Lindsey Graham and Chris Van Hollen introduce plan for sanctions against Turkey

No one associated with the Ukraine area of the impeachment inquiry has defied a subpoena yet, so they can't be held in contempt of Congress. It's coming, though.

I like this idea more than worrying about the potency of impeachment. It would be funny as all hell if they kept bringing impeachment proceedings against him. The Republicans would look stupid as hell acquitting him over and over again on laundry lists of new charges. Would really drive home how stupid this all is.

I hear this sentiment from some very liberal friends of mine every time the current US administration does some ridiculous shit - "well, now everyone will realize that Trump is stupid/a criminal/a Russian puppet". Everyone who is capable of intelligent thought has already realized the idiocy of the situation, and everyone who still hasn't caught on will deny any wrongdoing no matter the evidence presented. Republicans aren't afraid of looking stupid, they only care about being in power - because that is the only thing that really matters.

True, but if you erode any claim to legitimacy they have left it helps. Public spectacles do mean something. And everyone has a breaking point.
