The possible impact of these measures are also commented on in an article in the New Republic
Eh, I'll try to keep the feed clear of additional Trump fodder, everybody's probably seen all this crap anyway: As far as I'm concerned, Trump confirmed the report with his tweet about the leak. When you're gonna go up against the deep state, you should probably make sure you or your appointees and family members aren't involved in questionably legal dealings that they then feel the need to lie about under oath. Since you've still got one foot left after shooting yourself in the other by confirming a rumor, Trump then tweets about his "complete" power to pardon, presumably in response to whispers that he had been exploring the issue with his team of lawyers. What's interesting to me is that published rumors and allegations against Trump seem to have a confidence interval of ~95%. So far, there's been one debunked CNN story and the typical left-wing extremist nonsense. But for a large hunk of the country to lose faith in respected journalism institutions (WaPo, NY Times) simply because they're either told to, or don't like the implications of the reported news does not bode well for the next election cycle. Hey StillWaters, I was creepin' on you a bit. Think I should look for a postdoc in Sweden or Norway?
Regarding your final Q: it depends on what you're doctoral degree is in. :-) Also, how ready are you to experience a different culture? There is significant cultural difference between US (I'm assuming you're US based) and Scandinavia, and not everyone thrives on the challenges that entails. Happy to answer any Q's you have.
Naw, I got that worked out, one strong candidate in each country. Very ready. There is one thing that concerns me greatly, and that's the food. I'm cool with attempting pickled herring probably exactly once, but some of the other things I've heard about Scandavian cuisine aren't encouraging either. No, I'm not going to Kiruna, or anywhere else up in the arctic circle, both cities are southern and coastal. The other thing that kinda concerns me: it's pretty cold there. I'm from a very warm climate....it depends on what you're doctoral degree is in.
Also, how ready are you to experience a different culture?
Yeah, I too get really worried about all the comments seen on-line about WaPo, CNN, MSNBC, NYT being fake news. I reveals how willing too many are to simply march in goose-step behind Trump. Soon after WW2 academics placed a lot of focus on understanding what had just happened. Erich Fromm at that time published (IMO) two important works: His book on the "fear of freedom", and an article where he introduced the concept of "the authoritarian personality". The behavior we see in many of Trump's supporters 9and in Trump himself) is classical "authoritarian personality". And it is dangerous.
Luckily, I think there are too many people aware of what we're dealing with for the gig to take permanent root.
Kasowitz is taking a few steps back. Probably not of his own will. So many headlines today. Something big likely coming down the pipes. Edit: Spicey's out
