Key West attempted to sucede when the feds put up a roadblock to search for illegals and drugs. Locals and tourists were delayed hours on Hwy 1 in Florida City, 126 miles up the archipelago from Key West, but Hwy 1 is the only road in and out of the island. Local officials got really pissed.But the spectacle attracted enough publicity to convince the feds to remove the roadblock. The micro-nation had won.
